2022 · Water Environment Federation
Dr. Onder Caliskaner was awarded the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Eddy Wastewater Principles/Processes Medal, which recognizes outstanding research that makes a vital contribution to the fundamental principles or processes of wastewater treatment. The award recognized the paper “Performance Evaluation of First Full-Scale Primary Filtration Using a Fine Pore Cloth Media Disk Filter,” authored by Onder Caliskaner, George Tchobanoglous, Lilly Imani, and Brian Davis and published in Water Environment Research. The work documented the performance of the first full-scale application of fine-pore cloth media filtration for primary wastewater treatment, contributing to the advancement and broader understanding of innovative primary treatment technologies.
2019 · California Water Environment Association
First place award for primary filtration technology development. Principal investigator: Dr. Onder Caliskaner. Sponsors: California Energy Commission and Los Angeles County Sanitation District. Project Prime: Kennedy/Jenks Consultants. Demonstrated enhanced removal of particulates and organics and a related reduction in activated sludge process aeration energy requirements.
