About
Caliskaner Water Technologies (CWT) advances wastewater treatment and water reuse through applied research, technology demonstration, and performance evaluation. Our work focuses on decarbonization, process intensification, energy efficiency, and resource recovery, spanning initial assessment, process modeling, field demonstration, and full-scale implementation.
Who We Are
Caliskaner Water Technologies, Inc. (CWT) is a niche civil and environmental engineering firm. Founded in 2020, it is led by Dr. Onder Caliskaner, with 30 years of experience in technology research, demonstration, development, and design.
CWT is a recognized industry leader in emerging wastewater treatment and resource recovery technologies and processes, including primary filtration, carbon diversion, advanced primary treatment, biosolids management, PFAS, tertiary filtration, and water reuse.
Our mission is to demonstrate, evaluate, and optimize emerging technologies to intensify and decarbonize water resource recovery facilities (WRRF). Our critical task is to accelerate innovation in technologies and processes to improve treatment and energy performance while increasing WRRF capacity.
Industry Context & CWT Response
Growing population, water scarcity, rising energy costs, stringent effluent limitations, and land restrictions are now common challenges facing WRRFs. Because of these challenges, conventional treatment technologies are being replaced or supplemented by emerging and leading-edge technologies.
With a strong foundation in conventional technologies, CWT uses its expertise to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of innovative technologies against conventional ones.
The WRRF industry has become vibrant and dynamic in adapting to these challenges. Optimized solutions for WRRF design and operation are now essential to increase energy efficiency, improve treatment performance, reduce footprint, increase capacity, and minimize capital costs.
CWT is focused on optimizing WRRF processes to maximize facility performance and minimize financial impacts. Drawing on expertise and experience from our groundbreaking demonstration and evaluation projects involving emerging and innovative technologies, we provide utilities with critical recommendations for feasible, optimized treatment and technology solutions for decarbonization, energy savings, and WRRF intensification.

How We Work
We bring together facility owners, operators, technology providers, and research teams around clearly defined treatment objectives.
Our approach combines site-specific engineering with hands-on field support. We establish performance baselines, define demonstration objectives, evaluate operational requirements, and translate findings into recommendations for optimization and scale-up.
Since 2020, several hundred professionals have visited CWT's demonstration site and participated in workshops and seminars CWT hosted, allowing participants to learn about the fundamental principles, long-term performance, and operation & maintenance (O&M) requirements of the demonstrated technologies. CWT is proud to offer these unique opportunities not with the textbook or in the office, but in the field.
Successful technology implementation connects engineering expertise, field validation, and local collaboration. CWT works with technology developers, public utilities, government agencies, academia, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to advance the state-of-the-art of wastewater treatment and water reuse.
Identifying advanced primary and secondary treatment, biosolids management, and water reuse technologies to improve plant-wide treatment efficiency and capacity.
Using wastewater characterization and process simulation tools to develop site-specific design and operating strategy.
Planning and conducting pilot and full-scale demonstrations, with field measurement and verification to assess performance under actual operating conditions and in parallel with conventional technologies.
Assessing opportunities to reduce aeration demand, improve carbon capture, and enhance water, energy, and nutrient recovery.
