Caliskaner Water Technologies, Inc. (CWT) supported Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. (AASI) in the demonstration of the AquaDisk® cloth disk tertiary filtration system using OptiFiber UF-10® ultrafiber pile cloth media for California water reuse applications. The demonstration was conducted to evaluate the media's ability to meet California Title 22 turbidity requirements at higher hydraulic loading rates.
The testing evaluated filtrate turbidity performance, filtration and backwash operation, and overall system reliability under real-world conditions. The AquaDisk system uses fully submerged cloth media, gravity-driven filtration, automatic backwashing, and solids wasting to maintain continuous treatment performance.
The demonstration provides technical data to support conditional Title 22 approval of the UF-10 media and its future use in water reuse applications requiring stringent effluent turbidity performance.
With technical expertise in tertiary filtration process, CWT supported AASI in seeking conditional acceptance from the California State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water (DDW) for its OptiFiber UF-10™ cloth filtration media at elevated hydraulic loading rate under the California Water Recycling Criteria (Title 22), Section 60320.5. With engineering and operation support and assistance from CWT, a three-month continuous operation and demonstration with OptiFiber UF-10™ cloth filtration media was successfully completed in a facility in California. Throughout the project, the primary goal of maintaining effluent turbidity (1) not exceeding average of 2 NTU within any calendar day, (2) not exceeding 5 NTU more than 5% of the time in any calendar day, and (3) not exceeding 10 NTU at any time were all achieved with on-site optimization of the operation.
