California Title 22 - Unrestricted Reuse Flex Filter Technology Approval Project, Linda County Water District, Olivehurst, CA
The FlexFilter is a compressible media filtration technology developed by WesTech Engineering, Inc. The FlexFilter has been used for tertiary treatment, combined sewer overflows, sanitary sewer overflows, and other treatment applications. Filter media consists of synthetic fibers bound into a quasi-spherical shape using aluminum clips to bind the fibers. The synthetic fibers are made of dual polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate material.
Dr. Caliskaner managed the tertiary filtration pilot and evaluation project to assess the performance of the Flex Filter technology for compliance with California’s Water Recycling Criteria (Title 22), set forth by the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water (CDDW).
Tertiary filtration pilot project was conducted at the Linda County Water District’s Water Resource Recovery Facility in 2018. Based on the project results, CDDW approved the Flex Filter technology to be used for Title 22 unrestricted reuse applications at filtration rates up to 18 gal/min-ft2.
