About CWT

Caliskaner Water Technologies, Inc. (CWT) is a niche civil and environmental engineering firm. It is led by Dr. Onder Caliskaner with 25 years of experience in research and technology development and providing project management, planning, process evaluation, and design services to private industries and public agencies.

Growing population, water scarcity, stringent effluent limitations, land restrictions are now common challenges facing water resource recovery facilities (WRRF). The WRRF industry has become quite vibrant and dynamic to adopt to these challenges. Optimized solutions for design and operation of WRRFs are essential to increase energy efficiency, improve treatment performance, reduce footprint, increase capacity, and minimize capital costs. CWT is focused on optimizing WRRF processes to maximize facility performance and minimize financial impacts.

CWT is a recognized industry leader in emerging technologies such as primary filtration, carbon diversion, advanced primary treatment, and tertiary filtration. Conventional treatment technologies are being replaced or supplemented by emerging / leading edge technologies especially for process areas with high energy consumption or footprint requirement. With its foundational and deep understanding of conventional technologies, CWT uses this expertise in successfully evaluating the benefits and disadvantages of emerging and leading-edge technologies against conventional technologies.

CWT’s mission is to evaluate conventional and emerging technologies considering specific WRRF conditions and provide utilities with recommendations for feasible and optimized treatment solutions.

Some examples of substantial benefits demonstrated by CWT’s treatment process optimization evaluations are summarized below:

  • 30 to 40 percent increase in energy efficiency,
  • 20 to 30 percent reduction in capital costs,
  • Up to 80 percent reduction in footprint requirement,
  • 40 to 50 percent increase in treatment performance, and
  • 20-25 percent increase in treatment capacity

CWT is actively engaged in local and national professional associations to assist the WRRF industry to adopt better technological solutions in response to the growing environmental and economical challenges. CWT has carried important industrial leadership positions such as chairing Water Environment Federation’s leading-edge technologies outreach committee, directing California Environment Water Association’s Sacramento Area section, and leading California WateReuse Association’s Central Valley Section. With over 100 publications/presentations in primary filtration, carbon diversion, advanced primary treatment, tertiary filtration, water reuse, process modeling, energy efficiency, and water quality issues CWT has shared its expertise with the industry
